         THE RAINFOREST

DURATION: 1 HOUR

SUITABLE FOR: ALL KEY STAGES

GROUP SIZE: 30 CHILDREN MAX

Currently vying for top spot as my most popular talk,

Our Rainforest talk will transport your pupils into the depths of the rainforest, exploring the eco-system from the forest floor, right up to the tree-top canopy allowing them to get up close and personal with a variety of exotic creatures from rainforests all over the world.

I have not only kept and studied rainforest plants and animals all of my life I also have first hand exprience of trecking through rainforest and searching for its wildlife both by day and by night!

THIS TALK AIMS TO COVER:

(Depending on age group)

  • HABITAT AND ECOSYSTEMS
  • FOOD WEBS
  • NATURES RECYCLERS
  • PRIMARY PRODUCERS
  • PRIMARY & SECONDARY CONSUMERS
  • APEX PREDATORS
  • POLLINATION
  • ADAPTATIONS & CAMOUFLAGE
  • CONSERVATION AND EXTINCTION
  • RAINFOREST PLANTS

As with all my educational talks, I can be totally flexible to incorporate the specific points you are teaching

Starting with natures recyclers such as giant cockroaches and millipedes. With these we discuss the important work that scavenging animals carry out in the ecosystem

Of course the above creatures have their enemies! And here we move onto predatory animals such as scorpions and spiders!

Moving up into the vegetation we will get to meet up close such wonders as stick insects and other creatures that munch on the Plants themselves, discussing why we need these primary consumers and indeed the secondary consumers that prey on them! Here we also touch on the importance of pollination, often using brightly coloured beetles as examples.

Moving up the food chain we will meet reptiles and amphibians and discuss their adaptations to rain forest life.

The last animals we will meet will be predators such as a beautiful owl or our very cute short tailed opposum!

There will be opportunity for the pupils to handle one or two of the animals and plenty of time to touch and see the other animals close-up for themselves.
